Welcome to Mrs. Novak's Preschool Class

at Woodmen-Roberts Elementary

"Our mission at Academy District 20 Preschool is to partner with families and the community to educate children of all abilities in a safe and nurturing environment by providing developmentally appropriate instruction that creates a foundation for future academic success, social-emotional well-being, and exemplary citizenship."

We are so glad you chose District 20 Preschool for your early learner! Welcome to Woodmen-Roberts Preschool.  Our preschool program is an International Baccalaureate program of inquiry for children ages 3-5 with an emphasis on center-based learning. Our program fosters a play-based education rich in language development. We have a fully integrated preschool program for both AM and PM sessions, for children of all levels and needs. We provide services for typically developing peers, children with differing needs and abilities, and those children who have qualified for the Colorado Preschool Program.
A little about myself: This will be my 14th year as an early childhood special educator in District 20.  I spent many of those years as the preschool teacher at Antelope Trails.  I am excited to be at Woodmen-Roberts again this year in this excellent school.  I am a mom of three lovely boys, and am enjoying raising them here in my hometown of Colorado Springs. I love living in beautiful Colorado, and enjoy being outside. My family is from Italy, and whenever I can I enjoy cooking traditional dishes, and finding great Italian food places around town.

 RULER Dist 20 Emotional Intelligence

RULER is an acronym that stands for Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing and Regulating emotions. RULER is an approach to creating a positive learning climate and developing emotional skills of all adults and students within the school. It is a mindset and a language with which everyone in the school community can talk about their emotions. RULER is a school-wide approach that focuses first on developing adults personally and professionally so they can be role models and knowledgeable implementers of the skill-based instruction for students. The goals of RULER are to create a positive emotional climate and to enhance emotional intelligence in adults and students.
